Lesson 4>>

In the bad old days of shame-based child rearing, when many of our parents were being raised, it was believed that no one should ever say anything good about themselves, and children certainly shouldn’t hear too much praise, lest they get a ‘swelled head’ or grow ‘too big for our britches’. So they raised us that way, with a serious praise deficit.

Now, even as accomplished adults, the child within us struggles with self-doubt and wishes to hear praise once in a while, and be appreciated, just for ourselves. We ache for this kind of recognition, and yet if compliments come along, we have a hard time taking them in.

Just for today,

conduct a private celebration

all day long for how great you are.

Buy yourself some flowers or an affordable healthy treat.

Say good things to yourself: You look great in this dress! Awesome job you did with that client, darling! I love the way you parked the car just now.
Be unequivocal! Don’t hold back! See if you can go way over the top with this –
It’s not going to hurt a thing. You are filling up your tank of self- appreciation.

And if someone else just happens to compliment you, take it in this time.
Breathe, soften your belly and your heart area, look right in their eyes with a bold twinkle in yours, and say “Thank you so much for saying that!” Let your inner child squirm with pleasure inside you, so gratified at being seen. Like I said, it won’t hurt a thing.
